Welcome to Track and Field

Since 1972, Cascade Striders has welcomed athletes with all athletic abilities and talents.

While we do not require a try-out, we DO require ALL of our athletes to come to practices and meets prepared to be challenged, have fun, work hard, and be respectful of coaches, parents, and teammates.

 Runners from ages 7-18 can register, regardless of whether or not they are new to Striders, or returning runners.

We practice three times a week, generally on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-7pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 12pm.

We participate in up to eight track meets during the season, with all registration fees covered by the team.

Middle Distance

The Middle Distance program focuses on the unique combination of speed, strength, and endurance for the 400m and 800m events.

Workout Flow

  • Team Huddle for team announcements
  • 2 Warm-up laps (1 lap jog, 1 lap alternate skipping 100m, jogging 100m)
  • Dynamic Warm-up Drills (Lead by a coach)
  • Plyometric, Flexibility, and Form drills (Lead by a coach)
  • Running Workout (Sprint Coach will announce workout and break athletes into running groups)
  • 1 lap cool down jog
  • Core (As a team, lead by Strength coach)
  • Stretch (As a team, lead by Coach OR coach assigned athlete)
  • Final huddle for reminders/announcements
  • Dismiss

Distance Program

The Distance Program focuses on the 800, 1500, and 3000m runs, enabling athletes to push themselves to new limits through longer, endurance-based workouts, while also developing speed and strength to be competitive in the 800 and 400.

In order to prevent overuse injuries, distance practices last only 90 minutes.

The age groups are set by USATF, not the team

 

Please Note:

  • ALL EVENTS LISTED MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE AT ALL TRACK MEETS.
  • CASCADE STRIDERS COACHES DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER EVENTS OFFERED AT MEETS NOT HOSTED BY OUR TEAM.
  • Athletes ARE NOT allowed to “move up” or “move down” to compete in an age division as stipulated by USATF RULES.
  • Relays are a privilege, not a right. The Head Coach has final decision making authority regarding relay team participants and relay team orders.

Age Division: 5-6 (born 2014 and 2015) (Mighty Mights)

  • Registration/Competition event limit: 3 events
  • Running Events: 50m, 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay
  • Field Event: Long Jump (LJ)

 

Age Division: 7-8 (born 2012 and 2013)

  • Registration/Competition event limit: 3 events
  • Running Events: 400m,800m,1500m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay
  • Field Events: LJ, Mini Javelin (300g), Shot Put (2k)

 

Age Division: 9-10 (born 2010 and 2011)

  • Registration/Competition event limit: 3 events
  • Running Events: 400m,800m,1500m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay
  • Field Events: High Jump (HJ), LJ, Mini Javelin (300g), Shot Put (2k)
    *Combined/Multi Event: TRIATHLON: (Event Completed in 1 day)
  • GIRLS:High Jump-Shot Put-200m/ BOYS:High Jump-Shot Put-400m

 

Age Division: 11-12 (born 2008 and 2009)

  • Registration/Competition event limit: 3 events
  • Running Events: 80m hurdles, 400m,800m,1500m, 1500m Racewalk, 3000m (3km), 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 4x800m relay
  • Field Events: HJ, LJ, Mini Javelin (300g), Shot Put (6lbs), Discus (1k)
    *Combined/Multi Event: PENTATHLON: (Event Completed in 1 day)
  • GIRLS: 80m hurdles, SP, HJ, LJ, 800m
  • BOYS: 80m hurdles, SP, HJ, LJ, 1500m

 

Age Division: 13-14 (born 2006 and 2007)

  • Registration/Competition event limit: 4 events
  • Running Events: 400m,800m,1500m, 3km, 3km Racewalk,4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 4x800m relay
  • Field Events: HJ, LJ, Javelin (600g), Shot Put (4kg-G, 6lbs-B), Discus (1k), Triple Jump

 

Age Division: 15-16 (born 2004 and 2005)

  • Registration/Competition event limit: 4 events
  • Running Events: 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m,1500m, 2000m Steeplechase, 3km,3km RW, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 4x800m relay
  • Field Events: HJ, LJ, Javelin (600g-G, 800g-B), Shot Put (4kg-G, 12lbs-B), Discus (1k-G, 1.6k-B), Triple Jump

 

Age Division: 17-18 (born 2002 and 2003, and 2001 if turns 19 years old 8/3/2020 or later)

  • Registration/Competition event limit: 4 events
  • Running Events: 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m,1500m, 2000m Steeplechase, 3km,3km RW, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 4x800m relay
  • Field Events: HJ, LJ, Javelin (600g-G, 800g-B), Shot Put (4kg-G, 12lbs-B), Discus (1k-G, 1.6k-B), Triple Jump
