About us

Cascade Striders provide young athletes (ages 5-18) with an opportunity to develop and build confidence in their running skills while training and competing with other athletes of similar ages and abilities in a supportive and fun environment.

We pursue that goal with the philosophy of holding the emotional and physical well being of the athletes ahead of all other considerations and providing a rewarding experience no matter what level of running skill or background.

The Cascade Striders is a youth track & field club affiliated with USA Track & Field (USATF) - the national governing body for track and field, road running, cross country running, racewalking, and mountain/ultra/trail running. As such, it abides by the rules and regulations of USA Track & Field and operates in close coordination with its local association.

We are a non-profit organization run solely by volunteers and overseen by a board of directors.

Our club operates under the supervision of USATF certified coaches. All coaches are required to be members of the USATF and maintain good standing through an annual background screening.

  • USATF Club Number: 36-0108
  • USATF Association: Pacific Northwest (Western Washington)
  • USATF Region: 13 (Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Inland Northwest, Oregon)

We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization entirely funded and operated by our members and volunteers.

History

Cliff Nixon started the running club that became the Cascade Striders in 1972. It was the first local club to allow opportunities for both boys and girls to compete in age group Track & Field and Cross Country.
In its 50 years, it has helped thousands of kids develop passion for running and skills for life. Today, the program is recognized as one of the Northwest’s premier youth running programs.
